The original Dart quilt that I made was auctioned off for charity last fall on Instagram. And it was small, being such a versatile modern quilt pattern, I decided to make it again, this time scrappy!
Dart
The blocks in Dart are smaller than I often make, at 6″ there’s not a lot of room to piece. The simple rectangle pieces make it fun to play with color and print in each block. My personal challenge was to not have the same fabric next to itself if at all possible. There are always exceptions, but it’s a fun game to play while sewing!
For the fabrics, I selected from my fat quarter stash of brights, and some of the bolder black and white prints that I’ve loved but haven’t incorporated into other low volume projects. There are all sorts of background fabrics mixed in, and I love it! The busy backgrounds give it a sassy and happy vibe overall.
When I’m selecting fabrics for a scrappy project, I always like to look for similar color saturation, even when I’m mixing a variety of colors together. What’s your favorite way to mix up a scrappy quilt? 
When it was time to quilt it, I decided to use a green/gold thread called straw, So Fine! by Superior Threads. I added large X’s over the quilt top, in such a way that it doesn’t detract from the fun scrappy fabrics or the piecing. The binding is a mix of fabrics incorporated in the quilt top as well.

I am a new quilter and have been frustrated that my own scrappy quilts seem so disjointed and chaotic.
Not the effect I was going for.
Needing more guidance to achieve scrappy-but-cohesive look and pretty sure this is about choices in color and patterns of fabric.
Nice quilt but your pop-up covered most of it and I could not figure out how to shut down the pop-up. I refuse to give my email to anyone just because they require it to process comments. There are other methods.
