This last week had been full of all the feels! So much excitement over a chapter closing on high school, and beginning at the university level. Em is committed to attending the University of Utah in the fall and is so far keeping options open for the field of study. There’s time. ❤️

I love the mountains around our valley this time of year – there’s so much green and a bit of snow still. The moody clouds fit this quilt perfectly too!
This quilt is my Rooftop Wonders pattern, made with a collection of Bella solids in earth tones with a poly blend batting for the puffy factor, as requested. I quilted it with a fishing net texture that adds some angles to the otherwise very straight quilt. I love the curves that show up in the flat shots of the quilt.

The Rooftop Wonders pattern is flexible in the color placement which means there will never be a repeat of this quilt. And making it is so fun! There is a bunch of strip piecing, and simple straight seams to make up the unique, rectangular block. I would love to see your version!

The backing is a Ruby Star wide back print by Alexa Abegg – Moonglow in Earth. It fits the earth tones really well and the print is lovely – all the symbols and flowers are so pretty.

Of course, there was a bit of wind as we took photos, but it worked out! Taking photos of large quilts is always a challenge, but I have to document it. Collaborating with the graduate early on, asking about color and pattern, makes it a definite win in its final form. Are you making a quilt for any graduates in your life?

In about a year we will have another high school graduation to celebrate – I’m going to make plans for that quilt a little sooner than I did this one.
More soon –
Amy
Love it! Beautiful and unique. Did you hand guide the quilting? The random fractured look is very cool.
I did not – it’s a digital design called Fishing Net. Thank you!
Amy, your Rooftop quilt is just spectacular. When I think of earthtones, I envision browns, beiges, taupes, etc. Your addition of blue, green, rust (red) just fits. It is really lovely and I’m sure Em will get lots of raves from those who visit her dorm room! Well done. I’m putting this one on my list of patterns to get next time there’s a sale!

Thank you! Where we are in the Utah mountains, there’s red rock and lots of blue sky and green mountainsides. But earth tones is always open for interpretations :)
Amy! This is incredible! I would never have have thought about these colors but it is beautiful. I’m about ready to do a “solids” quilt…you have shown me how gorgeous they can turn out. Thank you for sharing and CONGRATS to your graduate.

Oh Amy! The quilt turned out just perfect! The colors and the MOVEMENT formed by those smallest pieces are just spectacular. I bought the pattern on your birthday after seeing the sneak peeks—just have to get my broken arm healed! Congrats to the graduate and her mom!

Amy—I really love the earth tones! Such a subtle display of color and movement. It is a perfect blend of creativity with the neutral tones so popular with young people today. Thanks for the inspiration!

The quilting fits the quilt perfectly. Give yourself a Pat on the back.
