Choosing to honor my true self and the creative process is the most rewarding creative time. The quilt in the photos this week is one that I made for myself, with a favorite fabric line, after a period of intense deadlines. I didn’t follow a pattern or write a pattern for the quilt like I often do. I slowly pieced together the fabrics I loved to create an original and fun quilt – while honoring my authentic self.

Creative Affirmation

When I stay true to my authentic self, I can do and create anything.

My Wonderland quilt is made of simple, Log Cabin blocks. I began the project with a few pre-cuts and a desire to have fun sewing with the fabrics I had collected. As I continued to make my blocks, I was running low on fabric and had to get creative. Adding other fabrics that weren’t a part of my original idea was a way for me to showcase my own creativity instead of being restrained. Using the “lack” of fabrics as an opportunity to create something true to me was exciting and liberating. I could have easily been stalled out on the project, but instead, I choose to keep going and add to it.

By taking on a design challenge with your unique perspective is a lot of the fun in being creative with fabric. Even the color or fabric combos that only you like! To me, that is so fun! I love taking those creative risks that reveal my true self.

I hope that you will take this affirmation to heart this week, and explore your authentic self. I’m excited to see what you create!
