Confidence in our skills and abilities comes with time and practice. When practicing a creative outlet, it is essential to remember that perfection is overrated. And seeking improvement is the better ideal to work toward. I’ve spent years and years (35!) sewing, to gain the ability to work quickly and easily through most projects. That confidence has come with practice, much like riding a bike or typing on a keyboard.

Creative Affirmation:

I am confident in my ability to improve my skills.

Knowing that you can improve any skill with time allows you to relax with a project and create from the heart. Striving for perfect corners on your first quilt binding will likely leave you upset and less excited about the next project. But understanding that you will grow and better your skills with every project adds excitement and fun with each project you begin. I for one would much rather explore and have fun than be saddled with the need to be perfect. Life is too short to live this way!

I would love to bind the occasional quilt by machine with results that I like. So far that process is ok for me on small projects, but messy looking on quilts. I know that if I take the time to practice, I will have the finish that I’m looking for. I’m just not quite there yet!
