Being open to new ideas is not a new idea, but it is important. I’ve spent the last week surrounded by quilts and quilters. A little slice of heaven on the convention center floor. The inspiration goes further than the quilts hanging, it’s in the conversations, lectures, and classes too. Imagine walking into a session knowing what the speaker is going to say already, and tuning out. That is not being open.

Creative Affirmation

I am always open to new ideas.

I’m so thankful for the time I’ve had to be surrounded by quilters and quilts, but it’s important to stay open to new ideas in everyday circumstances, as well. Noticing the cloud formations, or lines in the sidewalk or book cover and taking those ideas into consideration is part of the creative process too. If I am to always be open to new ideas, I need to drop the filters that have maybe built up over time and just allow the new ideas to flow.

Where is your favorite place to look for new ideas? I’ve shared a few images on my Instagram feed from QuiltCon and plan to share more here on the blog soon, you may also want to check out the Curated Quilts Instagram feed – we spoke with many quilters during the show, and have lots of eye candy in the videos.

I challenge you to look for new ideas this week and be open to where they might lead you.
