Quickly stepping into a creative flow, adds ease to my quilting process. Whether it’s sitting down at the computer, or a sewing machine; coming to my creative time with the expectation of this creative flow helps to increase my creativity. For instance, these weekly posts about creativity are a different sort of creativity, however, as I sit down to write each week I’m building up my creative muscle. I specifically challenged myself to build this side of my creative muscle further this year. At first, it required a bit more effort, but as I’ve been practicing, it’s gotten easier!

Creative Affirmation

I can easily step into a creative flow.

Repeating this affirmation helps create the expectation, and ease around your creativity. Knowing that when I sit down to write or design quilts the ideas will flow make the process a lot more fun. Having a quick meditation session before selecting fabrics, or beginning a cutting session also allows me to focus on the task at hand and keep my mind from wandering too far. Staying present to what I’m working on, keeps me in the creative process, and building those creative muscles up too!

I love helping quilters find their creative voice and step into their unique flow. This doesn’t always mean sewing constantly, but it finding yourself in the flow definitely takes some practice. Are you enjoying your creative flow?
