Making the most of the fabric already on hand is the quilters’ way! Scrap quilts are a great way to use what you have. It seems like many of you have pledged to use more fabric and shop less for fabric. With this in mind, I want to encourage you with patterns that are especially great in these scrappy situations!
Next week, I’m planning to share a few scrap quilt tips to help you use what you have and make quilts that sparkle. If you would like to be certain you get this content add your information here (*and I’d love for you to forward this link to a quilting friend).
Scrappy Inspo
Dart is a simple block repeated and turned so that you can enjoy the process of stitching all those favorite fabrics together. I loved using the little bits left over from other projects into this quilt top! A few of these fabrics left me scratching my head wondering why I had picked that one up, but together they are a lovely finish.
Hyperspeed is more complex and focused in its color selection, but still scrappy overall. As you select fabric for this pattern you are creating a gradient of color to add movement to the nine-patches that scale in size. This is an up-close look at the variety of fabrics included in my gradient.
Tipsy Triangles is a playful use of scraps! The resulting shapes in the quilt top are so fun to explore and arrange, and it changes as you sew. Points meeting, haphazard angles aligning you never quite know what will emerge, and it’s so freeing to create this way.
Waterfall made with solids or prints creates movement with color and simple shapes. Diving deep into color with a simple block pattern allows you to focus less on the tricky details and more on your creative process.
Have you noticed a theme yet? When in doubt, I always fall back to simple quilts that allow you to explore your creativity. Making a quilt is a big commitment of time and energy. I want you to have the tools to make the quilt you want to make!
Most of my patterns include multiple sizes with fabric requirements and cutting lists for each size so that you don’t have to do any math and can get started today. Check each pattern description/image for the sizes included.
Modern Quilt Block Series
Of course, the weekly series is also great for exploring your favorite fabrics! These blocks come in the same size each week and can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content. You can pick up these blocks one by one, or as a package deal and save! I love seeing the variety of blocks together, they are so playful and graphic – perfect for the modern quilter.
More
A few of my patterns were originally written for pre-cuts but would definitely make worthy scrap quilt options. City Block, Dayhike, Frolic, Paintpots, Talk of the Town, and Wishing Well all easily convert to stash or scrap fabric and are simple to sew. Happy Quilting –
