Looking for inspiration for your next quilt project? Look no further – I’ve collected 10 easy quilt blocks that I’ve designed for the Modern Quilt Block Series. These blocks are the same size and can be mixed and matched into your ideal quilt top, or used on their own for maximum effect.

10 EASY Quilt Blocks

Each of the blocks included is made with simple squares and rectangles. Each block includes lots of opportunities to practice cutting with your rotary cutter and perfecting the 1/4″ seam allowance needed in quilting. Let’s take a closer look at the blocks!

Candy Bar

This scrappy block is a great way to add a pop of color to your quilt top. The offset rectangles don’t follow a rhyme or reason and makes them easy to add to any combination of blocks.

Color Chips

Adding a border of background fabric around two bright fabrics makes this an excellent alternating block. When planning your quilt, you can use the same two fabrics in each of your blocks, or cut from your scrap bin for variety and interest.

Crosswalk

Alternating rectangles floating in background fabric add subtle movement and negative space to your quilt top. Consider a scrappy mix of fabrics for your Crosswalk blocks for even more interest.

Half Full

While the simplest block of the bunch, this one also offers the most flexibility! Use a consistent color palette, or cut from extra Layer Cake squares or fat quarters for the most variety in your quilt top.

Lopsided

On its own or mixed with other blocks, Lopsided is simple and fun. By alternating light and dark fabric placement you can add depth and movement to your quilt top with the most simple blocks.

Market

Adding a bright border to this block makes it a great alternate block. For instance, you can use the same color in each border, or mix it up for more visual interest.

Merge

This block is a great addition for adding punchy stripes to any quilt top! Make a scrappy quilt like my block, or focus on a favorite color for even more emphasis on the stripes.

Scale

Create movement with rectangles using the Scale block in your quilt top. I think the best results use a gradient of color or just two fabrics like my sample – either way you can’t go wrong!

Simple Cabin

This list of easy quilt blocks would not be complete without a simple log cabin block in the mix. In addition to adjusting colors, swapping the color placement within the block creates many great varieties that can be added to your quilt top.

Steps

With the Steps block we are able to add diagonal movement with a few well-placed squares. These squares create fun patterns when alternated with another block or on their own.
