Hi Friends!

I’m really excited to be quilting along with all of you! There’s over 700 quilters (so far!) signed up to sew The Comfort Quilt! I’d love to know where you are from in the comments.

Then Comfort Quilt - Quilt-Along with Amy Ellis

The Comfort Quilt

I will be posting every Monday for the next eight weeks to check in with you and your Comfort Quilt. April 23 – June 11, if you don’t keep up that’s no problem! Sew when you have the time and finish at your own pace. If I don’t have a deadline, I’m less likely to finish so this is great incentive for me. Thank you!

If you’ve made your way here and haven’t signed up yet, click here to get all the details in your inbox:

You need a copy of Modern Heritage to participate in the quilt-along. You can find it on Amazon, Fat Quarter Shop, my shop for autographed copies, and Martingale too!

The yardage needed will vary, based on the quilt size you choose to make. This week we will be raiding the scrap bin, and small cuts for the bright centers. Sign up using the button above for access to the materials lists and schedules.

Week one

  • Raid your scrap bin for brights to use in your block and cut them, per the book instructions.
  • Order low volume fabrics, if needed.
  • Make test blocks, checking seam allowance for accuracy.
  • Post a selfie to Instagram to introduce yourself to the group with #ComfortQuiltQAL
  • Share a photo of your bright block centers. OR Post a photo and let us help you decide!
  • Post a photo of your test blocks too.

Be sure to use the #ComfortQuiltQAL hashtag on all your posts so that everyone can find you. It will be a fun way to interact as we sew!

Since we are making a scrappy quilt, it makes sense to start with the bright block centers. Pull and cull your scraps until you have a great collection of fabrics! This is a great opportunity to pull your background fabrics and see if you need to order more too.

I’ve also set up a video for all you looking for tips in fabric selection. In the video I have a look at all the fabrics going into my quilt.

If you click over to youtube there’s links for the products mentioned in the video too.

Have questions about the quilt-along? I’d love to help! Leave a note in the comments and I’ll answer there so everyone can benefit.

This decidedly simple scrappy quilt is so fun to make! I hope you love the results as much as I have, and that it brings comfort to you or someone you love.

Happy Quilting –
