The feeling of being safe or safety is very important to our well-being. In fact if something is outside of our norm, or usual patterns our brain will automatically send an alert to come back to the regular programming. So when changing the way we approach creativity, affirming that it is SAFE to do so is part of the process. Letting your brain know that you are into this new dimension of creativity will allow for more.
Creative Affirmation
I am safe to express myself.
For instance, I took a long time to warm up to improv piecing. It took me deciding to take on a 100-day project to work through all the “non-safe” parts of the project to really enjoy the process. Through improv I’ve been able to play, explore and generally have fun sewing, and be excited about sewing despite the deadline sewing that I take on at times.
Is there an aspect of quilt making that you have resisted? Mixing up different colors, or trying the curved pattern you’ve had your eye on for years. Maybe you are like me and improv intrigues you, but the idea of letting go is daunting?
I encourage you to take a few minute to affirm your safety with yourself, and make it a point to repeat daily. Especially when you are starting something new! There’s so much fun to be had at the machine, and you deserve that too.

Yep, it’s scary to spend a lot of money and time on a project to say “What was I thinking?” But I finish it up and send it to the humane society and love that the doggos thick it’s fabulous! And their joy gives me the strength to try it again, and again….until I make the “OMG that’s GREAT” quilt. Thanks for the Monday morning lift!
