Heartland Heritage — August

In the month of August for the Heartland Heritage pattern we are making the Sweet Pea block! The Sweet Pea is a just that! A cute little block that adds a pop of color in your quilt.

I adore this sweet little block, and how quickly it comes together. Making the flying-geese units, four at a time, makes the cutting quick and simple. If you need a refresher on the flying-geese units beyond the pattern, you can reference my tutorial. I walk you through the process, step-by-step! When I first learned this method, I definitely needed to work through the process a few times before I fully trusted it.

Make sure to press as directed as you are making your HST units. This way the seams all nest as you sew the block together.

When sewing the rows together, a few pins are very helpful. I like to pin each seam diagonally. This way I use one pin per intersection, and I’m able to remove the pin before sewing over it, but my seam has been secured already. These small adjustments to my process has made a big difference in my accuracy over the years.
