In the month of October for the Heartland Heritage pattern we are making the Spotlight block. I always enjoy a bit of a challenge as I work through different patterns. Working with bias edges is always a challenge no matter how skilled!
Spotlight
This fun block, keeps the fabric decisions to a minimum. Your background fabric(s) and two contrasting fabrics, is all that’s needed. While making my half-square triangle units, I made sure to trim the units as directed. At this point, it’s been well over a year since I made my first sample. When adding the yellow rectangles, I like to add a finger crease to the center. This gives me a very specific point to match up the point with, making trimming easy.
Also, of importance, is the pressing directions. This allows the seams to easily nest, and reduces the bulk at those points. Your long-arm quilter will thank you for that!
We’d love to see your Spotlight blocks over on the Inspiring Stitches blog! Each month we have a link collector set up to showcase your blocks, it’s so fun to see everyone’s fabric choices!
