We all know that comparison is the thief of joy, and yet it still comes up often. I challenge you to only look at yourself yesterday, and make sure you recognize the growth. Celebrate your wins! Baby steps or big steps, every little bit of growth adds up to big changes.
Creative Affirmation
I compare myself only to who I was yesterday and acknowledge my growth.
Part of what I love about the Quilt Festival that I host on Instagram is the opportunity to be reflective. Having the time to note how far we’ve come from those first quilts, or how the techniques have shifted. These moments are important. Acknowledging yourself for the changes that you have made, and the growth you’ve had does a couple of things.
First, it gives you the opportunity to celebrate yourself. This might feel a little foreign, but who is going to celebrate you, if not you!? Take a moment to celebrate this milestone or a moment in time, you will be so glad you did. I love the smile that comes with acknowledgment!
Second, it also opens you up to show gratitude. Gratitude toward yourself, and all the effort you put into the project. Gratitude toward any teacher involved.
Finally, it allows you to dream of the next milestone. Dreaming big lets your mind expand with all the possibilities of what could happen. Using our creative imaginations to explore ideas is the best!
Acknowledging the wins in life is so important – is there a win you can share in the comments? I would love to know!

Accomplishments, yumm, I did get two small carry bags made and 120 blocks made for the Carolina Chain out of scraps. Sewing the blocks together now and waiting for spring to come in Iowa!
Yeah! I found my background fabric for Passage and cut out shapes to make three more blocks. One block completed, two in process. Working at my usual turtle pace.
It is so nice to hear a little encouragement in celebrating ourselves, whatever it may be. I think it is great to take that little bit of time to step back and be happy you finished 90 out of 120 blocks, you made a nice dinner, or you cleaned that room and it looks great. I am grateful for people like you who help and encourage us along the way. Thank you for bringing to the forefront just being grateful for doing these things…and learning from every experience.
