Graduation is one of the quilts from Modern Basics – I love the proportions of it, and the LACK of blocks. It makes for a fast quilt, and great for a beginner!
I re-made Graduation, and took lots of pictures to offer it as a workshop over at Craftsy.com.
Are you familiar with Craftsy yet? They have a great site, and a great community growing around the classes and workshops being offered. You should run over there and make yourself an account! The Workshop section has detailed, online patterns and the Graduation workshop includes a pdf download straight from Modern Basics.
Of course, I shared some of my organization tips for quilting. Since I sew at the kitchen table, I cannot leave pieces out, and expect them to have not transformed into a fork blanket, or cup cozy while my back is turned. But, if they are collected and stacked together, my kiddos know to not touch. I do keep scraps around for them though – just in case they feel like helping!
As one of my loyal readers, I have a special link for you! If you would like to have me walk you through the making of Graduation, click over and join the fun.
I also have two spots in the workshop to giveaway!
Just leave me a comment, maybe with your ideal color palette for this quilt, and you’ll be entered to win.
I’ll select winners on Thursday, December 1 –
Good luck!
Amy
I love the colors in your quilt. I’ve been told I pick out the wildest fun fabrics. My favorite line has been anything from Me and My Sister. So I would go with the bright fun colors. I also have your book and have made two quilts from it back with The Quilting Book club was hosted by Shawna. Thats where I found your blog. Have loved reading your post ever since.
How cool is the ability to take your class through craftsy?! I’d be interested in going from red to shades of pink to white.
I don’t have much solids. But….I bought solid fabrics – starting with the letters of my first name B E T T Y. Right now
I can only remember one T for tomato. So it could be my BETTY
quilt.
Sounds like a fun site, I will definately go check it out. I am obsessed with grey/gray right no. I would most likely go that route. Have fun teaching your workshop! Smiles~Beth
I love Craftsy, and have even signed up for a couple of classes with them on dressmaking (which I haven’t got round to taking yet, but I digress!)
I might have to join the cool kids/what everyone else is doing, and go for a rainbow on grey ;o)
Thanks for the chance to win
Your quilt is gorgeous Amy and I love how you clip everything together to keep organized! Little kiddos can sure mess things up if you give them the chance :)! I also quilt on my dining room table so I’m constantly keeping an eye on my fabric so things don’t get mixed up! I’d love to take your course on this quilt at Craftsy! I think I’d like to try a black/lime green/grey and white color combo for a fun twist! Thanks for the chance!
I guess I’m just hung up on Christmas colors right now…I’d love to do it in a mix of elegant reds and greens, and cream. What a fun idea, to take a class there! I’d love to be in on yours!
Thanks for the opportunity! That would be so much fun. I would start with blue at the top, and have each row be a shade more purple than the last, on a dark purple background.
What an elegantly simple quilt! I had not heard of Craftsy before, so I will definitely check it out.
As for colors? I’d be tempted to make it 4 times over, with colors reminiscent of each season. Eggplant and olive and rust and gold for one, bright yellow and aqua and magenta and peacock for summer. I’m sure you get the idea.
I’d LOVE to win a spot in this class for my husband! He’s quilting quilts. He’d like to learn to piece now! I think this would be a good geometric design for him to try. Thanks for doing this!

I would love to see this in greens moving to blues.
Oh wow! I want to make a quilt for my son (who just turned 18) and I would like to use greys, blues and greens!
Thank you for the chance!!!
I love the colors that you used…so simple and classic. I would probably go white to red with pinks in between. Might need to add some aqua though. Have to give that some thought! I have your book and I love it!
What a lovely website and opportutnity for you and your quilts. Enjoy.
Have a great day.
Always, Queenie
I keep eying the workshops on craftsy! I would do something in blues because that is what our bedroom is done in and the husband has been fussing for a bed quilt for our room.

First I have heard of the classes, I’ll have to go now and check it out. Sounds like fun. I would use Silent Films Kona package), Dark gray to light gray, maybe with black background
I would definitely do this in coffee tones and perhaps a slate/blue slate for my boyfriend as a Christmas present!
Thanks for this opportunity. I believe shades of lavendar and purples would work well with this quilt.
This is such a cute quilt! I’d love to make it up in the same color palatte of my current Storm at Sea WIP ;-) I’m loving that Kona Navy, Copen, and White!
Blues, I have lots of blues that would look stunning in a graduated quilt like that one. Thanks.
I would love to win and I think shades of grey, black.
OH! How cool is that? Hmmm, I think I might try it in camo with brown borders for my hubby…or maybe all shades of purples and lavendar for my daughter…oh. I just don’t know, it is so pretty!

The colors of fruit: plum, orange, green, yellow, various reds.
Would love to make this quilt in grays and mossy greens for my son. The simple design is perfect for a masculine look.
I would want to try this is shades of orange and yellow to remind me of the setting sun over the sea where I used to live.
I’ve been getting a lot of ideas from Pinterest.
