Last week, I was actually feeling pretty bad – I think I overdid it and stayed up a bit too late one night, and paid for it the rest of the week, in the form of a cold. boo! Thankfully, I’m feeling much better, and had a chance to work (play) with my new upgrade – the Pro-Stitcher!
I pieced a backing for this quilt I pieced back in February, and loaded everything. I selected a design, and sorted out the details to quilt, and pressed go! I watched the first couple of passes, then left it to do it’s thing, while I started dinner upstairs! SO cool! and just what I need!
**My girls came in from playing outside about this time, and were rather confused and amazed to see my long-arm running without me. Usually they gloss over whatever mess I have going on in my quilting space!
Over the course of the evening, the quilt was finished – pretty and a great first round with the Pro-Stitcher.
Having finished the quilt, there was quite a bit of backing and batting left on the bars, so I searched out a piece of fabric to quilt. I’ve loved the look of clamshell quilting, but not enough to follow a ruler across every single dip, not to mention the fact it would never be this perfect! The texture is amazing!
There was still more room left on the batting/backing, so I pieced this HST table runner that I’d had half done, it was cut away from a previous project. Then basted it in place to quilt it too! It’s been a great way to get to know the program and options a little while finishing something cute too!
Today, I’ll be spending time with Kris at My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe to get some proper training, and learn all the in’s and out’s of how the Pro-Stitcher works! Should be lots of fun – her shop is beautiful.
What are you up to today?
Amy
Okay wow. That is some bitchen stitchen’! I did’t think I was interested in long arm but that is cool!
Right!? I’m loving all the options!
Love those clamshells. Awesome!!
Wow! You make me dream now …:-)
Love the clamshells!
What terrific fun! Looks like you’ve got it pretty well figured out all on your own!
It is so much fun! Definitely a help to learn from someone with more experience though :)
Loving the clamshell quilting. It is ALL beautiful.
I’ll be finishing a customer quilt using my Prostitcher.
Wow Amy! Love the pro stitcher and all it can do….lucky you! Does that wonky log cabin have a name/pattern? The strips seem to be pretty uniform to be a random cut. And your HST are just perfect!
Thanks Mary :) The wonky log cabin details are here : http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2014/02/19/twisted-log-cabin-from-quilt-in-a-day/
I’m still hand quilter, so very, very slow in finishing projects. I appreciate the speed and precision of longarm quilting and must admit that I’m a teeny tiny bit jealous of how many projects you can complete.
Hi Amy,
I am really fascinated watching your experience with the pro stitcher and I have a question that I hope you won’t find offensive! Do you feel that using the automated program takes away from the handcrafted and heirloom quality of a piece? I have been doing my shopping and research to buy my own longarm and I am very torn about whether to invest in one of these automated systems. People often ask about the quality of my longarmming and I don’t know how I would feel telling them that a machine did the work for me. Would love to hear your thoughts on this! Thanks so much, XO Leah
I love clamshells on a quilt, so pretty.
