Week 8

This week I saw the midpoint of my 100 days! I’m really enjoying the improv quilting project, and plan to work toward some quilt tops soon!

I think I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of blocks whenever I get near them, so this week my goal is to sort blocks/units. With over 50 pieces, there’s definitely more than one quilt top. And probably more like three to five quilt tops so far! I want to sort and arrange units into groups that make a good top, then move forward with trimming and framing blocks into units that will work into my tops. This will be a very organic process, much like making the blocks.

Included in this weeks blocks is a little of everything! I’ve continued to piece little scraps left on the cutting mat, as they fit together. This is a really fun way to improvise a block, using what is handy, and feels good together.

I also had fun with another log cabin block, in reverse of my usual. The bright red center is a nod to tradition, but the block is decidedly organic and improvised.

I still love experimenting with bars of color, and the neutral palette. There’s so much that can be achieved with a limited palette!

I hope you have a great week!
