The Original Quill Pattern

A little over two years ago I shared my Quill pattern for the first time. It was one of many quilts that I designed for my first fabric line – Modern Neutrals. It’s a quick, fairly simple quilt to make, and it was a perfect fit for Quilty. At the time Quilty was published six times a year, and always loaded with inspiration. I was happy to share it with readers there, and have been told that many put it on their “must make” list immediately.

After a year I’m free to self-publish the pattern, and have finally taken the steps to do so, AND I’ve made kits available in yummy Grunge fabrics. I also added a bed size to the pattern, since I’ve been asked for it a few times.

Warm

Where I’m at in the mountains, I’m dealing with lots of snow. We have about 3 feet on the ground, and piles reaching much higher – it’s been a great ski season for the skiers! Anyway, I’m really looking forward to warmer weather and was inspired to group these warm colors together, for a striking quilt!

I love how the Grunge fabrics add texture without any directionality. It’s a step up from a solid too!

To the right you can see Quill in warm fabrics and the Grunges I selected to make it in. The queen layout can go in either horizontal or vertical on a bed, it’s 96″ square. The throw size is 56″ x 72″ – pretty much my favorite size quilt to make!

Cool

I know that not everyone is that into pink (I wasn’t until I had three girls!) and so I pulled some of the prettiest blues and greens to make a soothing quilt option. These colors remind me of a swimming pool or the ocean in the warmer climates around the world. Yes, I’m ready for spring!

To the left you can see Quill in cool fabrics and the Grunges I selected to make it in. The queen layout can go in either horizontal or vertical on a bed, it’s 96″ square. The throw size is 56″ x 72″ – pretty much my favorite size quilt to make!

Included in the pattern, are detailed instructions to label your fabrics, weather you use the kit or not, cutting instructions, and pairing the colors together to get the same movement in your quilt, as shown here. There’s so many fun options with this quilt, I’m excited to see more of them made!

I can’t decide which one to make first! Do you have a favorite color way?

For a limited time, the PDF pattern is included with any kit purchase. This week use promo code quillkit to save 15% off your Quill Kit in my shop! The fabric is on order and will be shipping soon.
