Abloom from my new book, Modern Heritage Quilts is a great example of a traditional block in a modern setting! I enlarged the blocks to make them the unique focal point in a soft sea of grey fabric.

The Flowering Snowball block was one of many patterns made widely available by the Ladies Art Company at the turn of the twentieth century. Enlarging this traditional block makes for a striking design. I decided to make just a few quilt blocks and set them off with a soft gray solid for a fresh take on tradition. “Abloom” allows some of your favorite scraps to stand out and is a great introduction to curved seams! It’s easy to get the hang of these gentle curves, and they’re quickly mastered.

Some of you may shy away from the curved seams, but these are easy curves! It’s a great starting point for anyone that hasn’t sewn curved blocks yet, to gain confidence. There is two templates to use, but since the pieces are large; there’s not many to cut and you’ll be ready to get started before you know it.

I fussy cut the centers for each block, and I love the way the little teal button pops off the navy, definitely not necessary in your quilt, but a fun detail if you do.

Signed copies of Modern Heritage Quilts are available in my shop, or you can pick it up on Amazon, or Shop Martingale! Martingale always offers a free e-book with purchase if you can’t wait to look through the entire book. I’ll be sharing more quilts throughout the month!

Happy Quilting ~

Amy
