Melody and I were busy all last week piecing 30 Dancing Stars blocks – I’m working toward the throw size, which includes 99 blocks total. Each block has a different print in the star, I love the variety!
I thought I would share a few tips for chain piecing these blocks.
First, I pieced the background with the white fabric in the second position. Then, I pulled prints out to add them to the mix, in the second or third position. I chain pieced all the pieces that I could at one time, then trimmed and pressed them together as well. I alternated the fabrics as the pieces dictated and sometimes, one or two of the sections would sit out while the others were pieced. In the last phase, I pieced the background fabric, then finally trimmed all the excess before piecing the segments into blocks.
Here’s all the blocks laid out together –
Not the best light, but it’s fun to see them together!
Don’t forget to share your progress to be entered to win.
More soon – Amy
Those blocks are looking great!
I am making mine using 3 different colors for each block.
Wow! They’re so sparkly and pretty!
I chain piece much the same way. I love having organised blocks. Can you please tell me what fabric you’ve used for the background?
I love the colors you chose for the blocks :) They look amazing!
Amy,
Hi, I am Peggy and I am new to your blog. I just got done piecing the blocks for a doll quilt. I am in need of some help here. I don’t understand how to put the rows together with the outside pieces triangles. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. I plan on doing a table runner and also a queen size version of this quilt in the very near future.
Thanks in advance,
Peggy S
