I don’t always have the chance to share my quilts as I’m working on them, and I’ve gotten out of the habit, to be honest! But I’m excited to share the beginnings of my Hyperspeed quilt in progress.

About a month ago, I pulled out some graph paper to make notes for myself. The quilt has no more than 8 of the same size block, even though they are all 9-patch blocks.

I started in the center, which is unusual for me, but thought I had best start where the most challenging (tiniest) pieces lie. I’ve been cutting the fabrics for 16 – 20 blocks at a time and piecing them before moving on to the next group. Each ring around the quilt is getting slightly larger, I think the overall effect will be really cool!

I’ve collected a variety of grey, cream, and white fabrics, in various shades to use in the quilt, and I’m excited to see it coming together.

I actually made the center group twice, after looking at my wonky pressing job on my first run. I know that it will quilt out, but at the same time I want to have the best possible outcome and this one really just needed to be pressed open. Being just a few hours into the project, it was easy to set this one aside and start fresh. I’m thinking this will work into a pillow or bag panel in the near future!

So my Patchwork Pins are getting a workout with all the seams to match up in this project. Do you have a favorite pin to work with?? I’ll be sharing more Hyperspeed quilt progress soon!

Happy Quilting~
