Superstar from my new book Modern Heritage Quilts, is crisp and bright. Superstar was beautifully pieced by my friend Megan Pitz– a BIG thank you to her for helping me to meet my deadlines!

Oversized blocks are a fun way to update a traditional block such as this one, the Odd Fellows Star. It was named after a fraternal order of men and women united to work together around the world. I gave it a more modern feel by setting the blocks on point and adding lots of negative space for a superstar of a quilt.

Star quilts have been a favorite for many years amongst quilters, as a designer my goal is to find a interesting setting, or new color combo that will inspire quilts for many! In this quilt I love that each star has a unique fabric in it, and how the center of the four blocks make another star. There’s so much fun quilting space in this layout too! I opted for a great geometric pattern to fill the space.

This quilt is great for a confident beginner and beyond – the hardest part is deciding which fabrics to feature in each block.

Signed copies of Modern Heritage Quilts are available in my shop, or you can pick it up on Amazon, or Shop MartingaleMartingale always offers a free e-book with purchase if you can’t wait to look through the entire book. I’ll be sharing more quilts throughout the month!

Happy Quilting ~

Amy
