Chic Mania from my new book Modern Heritage Quilts, is a mix of earthy greens and grey with a soft neutral background. Chic Mania was beautifully pieced by my friend Tricia Poolson – a BIG thank you to her for helping me to meet my deadlines!
The traditional block used in “Chic Mania” has many names, Courthouse Square and Album block among others. This block has been used to make signature quilts for a new bride or to commemorate a special event. No matter what your reason for making this pattern, the quilt is bound to be beautiful and steeped in history.
This quilt is pieced with straight seams and lots of chain piecing, the triangles needed and trimming required place this project in a confident beginner to intermediate quilter category. For the color story, I found a single fabric for the center of all the blocks, then pulled fabrics that coordinated with it. As you can see not all the fabrics are the exact same color, I love that the gold tones keep your eye moving around the quilt easily.
I had fun changing the block sizes in Modern Heritage Quilts and this one is the most obvious. The extra large block surrounded by the smaller blocks is a great way to add a focal point to any quilt!
Signed copies of Modern Heritage Quilts are available in my shop, or you can pick it up on Amazon, or Shop Martingale! Martingale always offers a free e-book with purchase if you can’t wait to look through the entire book. I’ll be sharing more quilts throughout the month!
Happy Quilting ~
Amy
That’s fun, the way it’s all the same design in different sizes. and clever, too.
This is one of my favorites (after Venus of course)!!
I’m surprised (and delighted) by how great echoing the block in different sizes works. This is a realy beauty that your color choices really enhance.
