I’m so excited to be quilting along with all of you! In case you missed it, this is our Think Big quilt to be made:
All three blocks are from my book, Think Big, which features 18″ blocks and all the math to help you make the quilt you want to make. It also makes for a great sampler quilt, like the one I have planned!
Today I’m back with all the book and fabric requirements, to help you get organized, and ready to piece.
To participate you will need a copy of my book, Think Big. If you don’t have one already, Think Big is available in my shop, with Martingale or Amazon. Any books ordered through Martingale, receive a digital copy immediately –> best of both worlds, instant gratification and a hard copy of the book!
I hope you will also join us in the group I’ve set up for quilt-alongs here, too! It’s already a great group of quilters, sharing projects and getting to know each other!
Looking at my sketch you can see the various shades of grey, decide on the colors of fabric you most want to highlight. Of course if you have a group of fabrics that you want to use, sort things out light to dark fabrics to achieve a similar look in your prints.
- 5 yards of white fabric
- 1 1/3 yards of light grey fabric
- 1 3/8 yards of medium grey fabric
- 1 3/8 yards of dark grey fabric
- 2 yards of colorful scraps
- 3/4 yard of binding fabric
- 96″x96″ piece of batting
- 9 yards of backing fabric or 3 yards of 108″ wide backing fabric
If you prefer, the corner blocks (Equalizer) to be prints instead of dark grey, you can swap it around, and will need 2 3/4 yards of colorful scraps, and 5/8 yard of dark grey instead. In the sketch below, I’ve rearranged the color so you can get a feel for how that might look.
These are the fabrics I’ve pulled for my quilt. I had these in mind when I was putting the sketch together – I’m excited to get them sewn up!
Our schedule as mentioned last week :
August 3rd – book & fabric requirements
August 10th – Connections blocks (cut & sew)
August 17th – Tilt-a-Whirl blocks (cut & sew)
August 24th – Equalizer blocks (cut & sew)

I’ll add links to each of the posts as the posts go up. Let me know if you have questions in the comments, or over in the Facebook group. I can’t wait to get started!
Amy
I have my book and God only knows I have enough fabric but my machine is in the hospital and my health is not great right now so I may just live vicariously through you all. I love all the patterns in the book and have been spending lots of time planning colors for each.
Thank You
I hope you are feeling better soon Dayna!
Have my book and figuring out my fabrics today. I’m excited!
Yay! I’m excited to see all the different combo’s in the group :)
Hi Amy
Is it possible for you to make a coloring sheet for the design available?
It would be fun to try out some different color schemes
Thanks
Pam
