Little known fact – you can participate in the Blogger’s Quilt Festivals by sharing a Flickr link instead of a blog. That’s how today’s featured quilter, Belinda has shared her work in the Festivals! The main thing I ask, is that you still share the story of your quilt, along with the image. You can check out Belinda’s photo stream here, I hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better –
1. When did you begin quilting?
My quilting journey began in the very early 90’s when a sewing friend & I took a quilting class. It was her grand passion in life to become a quilter. I was just along for the ride as I didn’t think quilting was anything I would ever want to, let alone, love to do. 20 years later, I am, of course, a passionate quilter.

2. Why do you quilt?
Simply put, quilting feeds my creative soul! Creating beautiful things that my family & others truly enjoy makes my heart smile. Perhaps this “eye heart u” picture that my 3 children created for me says it best –

3. What is your favorite quilting tip?
I just recently joined the spray starch party. Using a touch of spray starch has significantly improved my quilting in ways I just didn’t expect.

4. What was your inspiration for your Quilt Festival Quilt?
I was inspired to make this quilt (pictured above) for my sister-in-law who, after a 9 year remission, was dealing with her 2nd round of a very aggressive strain of Breast Cancer. Since we live many miles apart, I couldn’t do much to help her & my brother, but I could make her a quilt, which became the focus of my thoughts & prayers for most of last year. Regularly posted progress pictures gave her a bright spot to look forward to when things were tough. Thankfully, she is in remission, again! A surprise visit to our area last October, provided the opportunity to present the quilt to her in person.
5. Do you sew other things?
Yes I do, although many of those things are “quilty”. Many of my non-quilt projects are custom orders for things like Baby Gift Sets, Oil Cloth Totes, & Aprons. Most of my projects over the past 5 years are pictured on my flickr stream.

6. Anything else you would like us to know about you?
From the late 90’s until 2009, while we were getting our 3 children through their High School years, I took a hiatus from sewing. Now, as an empty-nester, inspired by the Modern Quilting movement & the current lines of fabric, I spend the better part of each day immersed in the world of quilting/sewing. Quilting has become a grand passion! To say that I am truly blessed, at this stage of life, to be able to share my talents via handmade projects with family, friends & customers is an understatement!
