I spent the last week or so catching up on my pattern and personal responsibilities, with those out the way, I quickly decided it was time for some fun!
First I pulled these fabrics, and printed out the paper piecing guide for a feathered star. I’ve been admiring these patterns and wanting to make one for a couple of years now, but didn’t have the right reason to make one.
(L-R Basic Grey Persimmon, Grunge, Crossweave, Joel Dewberry True Colors, Basic Grey Persimmon)
Sorting out the pieces at this point was a little challenging, then deciding which pieces to put together first was a puzzle. I’m not sure I would do it the same way again, but it did go together pretty quickly.
I worked on it off and on over the course of 18 hours, ignoring my email, and a few other things that could be put off. It still has papers in the back, and feels a little tortured, being a 12″ block with lots of tiny pieces, but I’m so excited to have it together!
My next steps are to add borders, and figure out the best course of action for quilting it! This is being made for my partner in the Quiltcast Mini Quilt Swap – check out #quiltcastminiswap on Instragram for more images from the swap.
In other news…
Modern Neutrals is shipping to a store near you this week!
I can’t wait to see what you all make with them!
Happy Quilting –
Amy
Lovely star! And for the group pic of the modern neutrals, what is the block on the far right? It’s like an economy block crossed with a snowball/puss in the corner but not . quite . hmmmm.
Do you have a source for the feathered star? I’d love a copy.
What a lovely star pattern! I am so excited for when your fabrics hit our shelves. ; )
Oooo!! This is super neat. Love your colors in it, and the birds are just so sweet in there. :) Exciting for your fabric to be coming out now!
Hi Amy, heard you had made this block on the Quiltcast. I am really impressed, something totally different for you and I love the use of the solids and prints together. That Persimmon solid looks amazing with that dark floral print. It must have taken a lot of patience to get that done!
