Last week was a fun adventure! Tuesday afternoon I left Salt Lake City, with St. Louis and Baby Lock headquarters as my goal. The inaugural Common Threads event was a huge success!
The trip was a little bumpy, but thankfully I was able to get some work done on my second flight. It was kinda empty, and I had page proofs to work on, for my book coming in December.
The list of attendees was small, perfect for true interactions. It was a time to really get to know each other, and build friendships!
All the attendees donated to the swag bags – I sent in a mini charm pack of Modern Neutrals, there are piles of magazines, books, and patterns as well! I’m still looking forward to looking through everything!
We spent a majority of the time at the different types of machines that Baby Lock produces. We used the Ovation Sergers, Unity sewing machine, and the Sashiko machine. Each with lots of great features, that we put together into a sweet fabric book.
My favorite feature on the Unity machine, is a guide beam!Â
Using the guide beam, eliminates the need to mark the wrong side of the fabric, for making HST units, flying geese, snowball blocks etc. This is a feature I’m hoping to have included on my next machine! Such a time saver, and totally customizable!
The Unity also has an impressive embroidery suite – which is super fun! My first embroidery project, was a snap to complete, and I can see how many sewing friends enjoy machine embroidery.
Sashiko is a fun machine that has just one stitch, but the options are many! The thread actually runs through the bobbin only, and produces this great stitch that looks like it was hand done. I did appliqué around the edges of this bird with the Sashiko machine – so fun! In the end, all the sample pages I made were bound by the serger, and tied together in this book.
It’s a great memory, and resources of all that I learned about the machines.
I loved this wall of great sayings. Many of them are true in so many areas of our lives.
Working with Baby Lock, is more like having an extended family, and I’m so blessed to be a part of their network! They really do love sewing, and work diligently to pass that love on to anyone that they come into contact with. I’ve got another post planned to share more about a special project that they are working on around the country with Enchanted Makeovers.
I hope you are well and blessed today –
Amy
Man! Thats some fancy stuff indeed. So glad you had lots of fun out there. :)
This looks so fun! I saw on another blogger’s page that they’d also attended this, but I wasn’t sure what it was. Looks like a great experience for you (and everyone!)
Oh wow, that looks (looked – I saw some pics on instagram) like an awesome event! I love the guide beam and the sashiko! Very cool.
