Hi Friends! I’m still wrapping up details from Blogger’s Quilt Festival, but I’m really excited to show off a newly finished quilt too!

Last weekend this cute couple was married:

Zach is one of my husband’s younger brothers, I’ve known him since he was 8 or 9, and it has been great to get to know Erin over the last year since they started dating!

They had announced their engagement and wedding date in February, and I excitedly put together the quilt top, before my sample yardage arrived. I had fun selecting the fabrics (Botanique by Joel Dewberry) and pattern from one of my books (Modern Basics II) to make them a quilt, just for them.

The bright and saturated prints are perfect for them, incorporating some of their favorite colors, and one of my favorite quilt designs. Ignore the wrinkles – I had forgotten it in the dryer, plus – I always find a quilt needs a few washes to truly be broken in.

To quilt it, I did some straight lines, and some swirls in the open spaces, hopefully it’s the perfect amount of quilting to keep it comfy, while showing off the piecing too.

They loved it! They were even a little giddy, when my husband hinted at another gift for them, while we had dinner.

Coming home from Market, to my busy family, and BQF, I decided that I couldn’t finish it before their wedding, and just let it go. After not stitching anything for a week, I was ready to focus on a project, and excited to be able to give them their quilt too!

I finished the quilt with a scrappy binding – it seemed like the perfect finish for it.

The quilt measures 90″ x 90″, which is almost twice as big, as the quilt in Modern Basics II. To do this I just added more fabrics, 18 instead of 10. In case you wanted to make yours larger too :)

You can see my quilt in progress here, and the top here.

The original quilt can be seen here.

I hope you are stitching something fun today – it’s our first week of summer break!
