About a month ago, I received a charm pack of Bella, by Lotta Jansdotter. While trying to think up a clever project for the fabric, I was busy making preparations for BQF, and all the usual happenings in our family. I never put that charm pack away though! I didn’t want to forget about it! Out of sight, out of mind…
Finally, inspiration struck and I pulled a few coordinating solids. Within a few hours, I had a new table runner!
I love the organic feel of the fabric and my piecing – it’s so easy, I thought I would share a few steps.
I paired each charm with one of five solids, and sewed down two, opposite sides.
Then I cut them open. Some are cut at the center, and others are random.
Then I stacked them in three columns, and sewed them up! After I had my columns sewn, I decided to cut one in half on the length. I didn’t match any seams, and simply love the outcome.
Stats:
Measures 14″ x 45″
Fabrics – Bella, by Lotta Jansdotter, Kona, teal, cadet, ash, coal and Bella tomato
You did a lot of straight line quilting on this! Lovely. I need to make another table runner for the summer, ready for a change I think. Good inspiration, thanks!!
So neat! Love the idea of random cuts. Makes for some scrappy, cool surprises. Your straight quilting lines bring the whole thing together.
Great fabrics, yummy quilting.
Love it, Amy!
Love your runner! Wish I had some Bella!!
Super cute! That blue thread for the quilting makes me happy. Thanks for sharing your process! Smiles~Beth
it looks awesome! i too have been playing around with my sample charm pack…isn’t it just the best? I’m almost done with my project ;-)
What a wonderful idea and your technique is awesome. A bright and festive runner for the summer.
Have a great day.
Always, Queenie
Wow! I love what the straight line quilting does for this piece. Great idea!
It just says “summer” to me! Love it!
Very cute, Amy!
thats really pretty, I love that the seams dont match, it really makes it stand out beautifully.
I love this – and a great brief tutorial too. Should inspire all to pull out those languishing charm packs which seem to accumulate for ‘just the right project’.
That is just perfect Amy! You made the best use and then some of one charm pack.
You work looks very professional, really awesome designs I like the last one. Thanks for share with us.
hi — how many pairs did you start with? Love your idea! Thanks for sharing it.
Hi there. I am a beginner quilter. Can you tell me what width to cut the binding?
