Last week I shared a photo of my cut pieces, and left you hanging…sorry about that!  I did post a few photos via Instagram (I’m amyscreativeside) and I’m really liking where the quilt is headed.

Geese hearts!

I’ve been on a flying geese kick lately, and the inspiration given, by my secret partner, lent itself to the stacking of like objects.  I worked out 2″, 4″ and 6″ wide geese, and enjoyed piecing the little bits.  If flying geese are an enigma for you, I shared a tutorial in this post, they are fun to make!

Makeshift design wall. I pinned batting to my curtain, for a mini quilt!

My kitchen floor is usually the design floor, but for all these little pieces (started with 134, ended with 106 geese!), I had a brilliant idea.  I pinned a piece of batting to the curtain hanging in the kitchen, and presto – design wall!

fab little quilt swap - in progress

Laying out the quilt top, I eliminated one print that wasn’t playing nice, then reconfigured pieces, again and again. Then began sewing, some of the smallest were sewn together as a brick of four, and others are long strips.  In the end there were a few partial seams to join all the columns.  The only problem with the batting on the curtain, was the lack of sunshine for my pictures!

The mini measures 18″ x 24″ – and I’m going to have a hard time sending it off!

Quilting a mini :)

Yesterday I quilted the piece with some straight lines, and cannot wait to finish and wash it.  Love a finish!  I’ll be back with those photos soon – it has to be in the mail by Monday!
