Hi Friends!  I’m excited to share Sarah Fielke’s new book with you today!

Quilting: From Little Things is a fabulous book full of inspiration, and great lessons too.  In the book Sarah has included 10 small projects to learn a new technique or method, and then 10 larger counterparts that allow you to put the method to the test.

The projects include applique, flying geese, foundation piecing, feathered blocks and inset piecing – each one is known to be a challenge, but when used or learned in a small project it isn’t so overwhelming!  Brilliant!

Did I mention wedges earlier?  Hanging Laterns is stunning, and a fun way to use dresden petals in a  new way.

For the novice quilters there’s also lessons in row construction, and strip piecing.  Don’t you love how Sarah puts color together?

I’m so enamored with these feathered stars – named Flock Together.  Those tiny HST units add so much dimension to the quilt!  This one is on my someday list.

I really wanted to take the time to put a lesson into practice, knowing that I will always have lots to learn, and so I made a doll quilt from the Step-Down Piecing section.

I fussy cut the birds and laid out all the pieces, because the pieces don’t line up, it forces you to sew partial seams.

BUT the directions are very clear, and after sewing the first 5 pieces, it was simple to continue on, and finish piecing in one setting.

I also enjoyed hand quilting around the birds, while football was on yesterday.  While I have lots to work on, having a small finish feels so great and completely worth the time and effort put into it.
