I’m looking over my shoulder for her too! She’s not here and I have the stack of dirty dishes, and laundry to prove it! Let’s be completely honest, there’s no such thing as a supermom — myself included.
With everything that I’ve done over the last year, my family has been my first priority, but over the last month, since the Sewing Summit, I’ve realized that I had taken on too much.  Opportunities that have found me recently, and others that I have pursued, I decided that I’m not able to keep up with everything, and be present for my kids.
After much discussion with Joe, and thought, I decided to leave the planning of the Sewing Summit to Erin. Â It’s been a HARD decision to come to, and not at all taken lightly, the Sewing Summit has been dream, and dream come true. Â In the end, I know it’s right for me and our family. Â However, you will still hear about The Sewing Summit here, Â and I am planning to attend in the future.
So, in case you thought I was SuperMom, I’m here to tell you that I’m not!
I gotta run and switch the laundry, what are you up to today?
Blessings ~ Amy
WTG, Amy!
Time to exhale and hug your family.
Good for you, Amy! I think we all need to step back once in awhile and re-prioritize.
Good luck!
Sandi
No doubt you’ve made the right decision but it is a loss for The Sewing Summit for sure! I suspect this only means we will see in you doing new and different and exciting things within the quilting industry. :)
I’m with you. After scrambling the past 2 weeks to complete a quilt before my quilt guild meeting this week I’m going to focus on cleaning today.
You are amazing!!! And thank you for reminding us all that it is okay to just get by sometimes. I am off to buy groceries as we are out of eggs, milk, cereal, bread. (Ya basically, the basics :)
I think you have your priorities straight! When things get too crazy for me, I always try to remember we are Human Beings, not Human Doings!
Amen, sistah! I found myself needing to do this recently…don’t feel quilty; you are empowering yourself to meet the most pressing priorities. You are not Elastigirl, either – you can only be stretched so thin… :)
Oh, so many similar conversations here…
We start the quilting career to balance out our wishes with raising a family and then it takes off and could easily become a more than full-time job.
Aw, no worries! None of us is a supermom. I hadn’t figured out his you are able to quilt, much less anything else!
Good for you for doing what’s right for you and the fam! I think you’ll probably appreciate your sewing time even more when it’s not associated with lots o’ stress. I’m so appreciative of all your hard work with The Sewing Summit. I hope you get to sit back, relax, and spend time on what you love best!
There just aren’t enough hours in the day. I can’t imagine trying to sew with deadlines. Sit back and relax – leisure sewing is so much more fun! The kiddos are only young once.
Amy, I can definitely relate and tell you we’re definitely in the same boat! Good for you to make the call, sometimes I never have enough courage to make that for myself! LOL!
I’m sure this was an incredibly difficult decision Amy. We sincerely appreciate all you did in getting the Sewing Summit started. Best of luck in managing everything – it’s a good thing to realize now that you need a step back (and not 6 months from now!).
I actually think that you are a supermom, what you have just done proves it!. All the best.
Family is so important. I have been doing the same thing myself lately. My children’s lives are getting busier and I need to be there. I have found that I am enjoying my quilting more when using it as a stress relief, rather as another added stress. I have also picked up knitting and crocheting again which are more portable to do. I support your decision, and know that I am here for you. I do hope you keep quilting!
I feel so behind sometimes! I am trying to blog more but for some reason just can’t do it. I am an events coordinator for my job and it is a lot of work! I’m glad you will still be posting about it and participating, I really hope to attend the sewing summit next year!
I think every mom can relate to your dilemna. It is tough to balance everything. Just remember if you aren’t happy and healthy the rest of the family will feel it too. chin up, do what you can and take care of yourself. (which is usually hard to do as a mom)
It takes a very amazing person to say when they have taken on too much and when it is time to step back. My hat certainly goes off to you. And that is why you are truly a super mom.
Amy, a hard decision I am sure! None of us are supermom, but that doesn’t stop us from trying, does it? LOL Hugs!
Blogging and sewing! Yay for retirement!!
It is nice to say that out load, I am not perfect and I have the messy house to prove it. It is awesome that you know what priorities should always come first and I am a firm believer that a decision for your family is always a good one!
you deserve a pat on the back and a big hug!
I remember those days of busyness with the kids at home–I applaud you for your wisdom in setting priorities–you will not regret it.
No one but you knows what is best for you and your family. They always have to come first no matter what. I so understand how hard a decision it was to make but I made a similar one this past spring and I am so much better off for it. Now I get to sometimes do more of what I want to do.
You know how proud of you I am. You amaze me at times. I love you and am so happy with your decision. Love, Mom
There is no such thing as the SuperMom we all have in our heads. But, there are millions of SuperMoms out there doing their best for their families, themselves and their communities.
Congratulations for thinking things through and making the best decision for you and your family :)
Good for you, Amy. I think the super-est moms are the ones who know when to say when. High-fives and hugs.
Bummer that you’re not doing the sewing summit next yr.
