I spend a good amount of time writing each day, or thinking about what I will be writing next. I think many of you can relate, right? However, whenever I’m given the task of actually writing a note in a card – I often draw a blank!
“aaaaahhhmmm – what should I write?”
Not anymore! I was given a copy of Write the Right Words: Messages from the Heart for Every Occasion by Sandra Lamb, and I welcome it as a regularly used book on my shelf!
Here’s a little bit more about the book:
Every greeting card needs a personal, handwritten message to make it complete. In this comprehensive, encouraging guide, journalist and lifestyle expert Sandra Lamb offers a wealth of advice, inspiration, and examples for anyone who wants to add the perfect personal touch to their card messages—as well as anyone who wants to know the etiquette of when and what to write.
Something as small as a heartfelt message on a greeting card can help remedy our hectic, e-mail–dependent lives. Lamb provides tips and sample messages for every occasion under the sun, both happy and somber (thank-you, birthday, birth and adoption, condolence), and explains the meanings of possibly unfamiliar holidays and religious rituals to aid in the writing of appropriate messages.
This personal, indispensable guide will help you rekindle the joy of putting pen to paper and truly connect with loved ones and friends.
After reading through most of this book, I’m actually shopping for stationery again and thinking about when I could use it. Sandra has thought of everything in this book, thank you’s to in laws, and the most difficult task of words of sympathy. Relevant quotes have been included and sample text for you to personalize and make your own. I know that I will turn to this reference time and again!
Good news for one of you – Sandra has offered a autographed copy to one of my readers. (US/Canada only, no PO Boxes) Just leave me a comment to enter — I will select a winner over the weekend!
Many thanks to Lisa of TLC Book Tours for the opportunity to participate in this tour.
Hope you all are having a great day~
Amy
Amy – I make and sell handmade greeting cards and always am trying to think of just the perfect thing to say – even though I try to keep it short, so the person sending the note can add their own sentiment.
Also – I really enjoy reading your blog – along with my daughter who is an avid reader also.
Keep blogging!
Oh, so needed! Hope I win it – thanks for the chance!
This is such a fantastic idea for a book! Like you, I always struggle with what to write when it’s just a short note (blogging is another story entirely!), so this would be amazingly helpful for me. Thanks for the chance to win.
What an awesome book to have. I always have trouble finding the right words to say!
I would love to have this book in my collection! Thanks so much for the opportunity.
I would love to win the book. So many people have forgotten or ignored the art of writing a thank you note! Some day stationary will become only a memory what with computers and texting taking over.
As others have commented, I just draw a blank when I need to sign a card. This book would be such a help, please draw my name.
What an amazing resource! I always struggle when writing words of sympathy. I firmly believe in writing “snail mail” and teaching gratitude and appreciation to my children for gifts they receive. This book would provide such help and inspiration for those moments when I get stuck and am at a loss for words. Thank you for the opportunity to win!
What a help this would be! I don’t write very often, so it’s hard to come up with just the right words, especially for a sympathy card. Thanks so much.
What a useful book! I too struggle when it comes to writing a small note on a card. Finding the right words is very hard sometimes.
Thanks so much for the chance to win this book. It is a struggle, especially when it’s a difficult situation rather than just saying thanks so someone.
Wow, could I use this! I often won’t send a card just because I freeze up when it comes to writing anything in them. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
What an awesome idea and book. Thank you for offering a copy to us. Take care and God bless, Cory
What a fascinating idea for a book. You’ve made me really curious about this book now.
I’m sometimes amazed at how people say just the right things, especially in difficult or sad situations. I always seem to fumble for words.
The book sounds fabulous. Struggling for the right words will be solved. Thanks so much for offering the book!
Sounds like a great book, something I could really use. I am always at a loss about what to write in a card.
Not knowing what to say has, often enough, stopped me from sending a card or note at all. Not good. Sounds like a good book to have, not just for writing, but perhaps for appropriate responses for various occasions, too.

Love to receive & writer personal notes. Have so many sick friends and some sympathy notes that I need to write. Would love to have this resource for suggestions. I am a retired Home Economics teacher and we once taught all of this–wonder who is teaching it now! With all the emphasis on academics, I think we are missing some etiquette that needs to be emphasiczed!
its always hard to find the right words, especially in some situations! I would definitely benefit from this book! great review and thanks for the giveaway!
i never know what to say in a card, i would love to get a copy. Thanks for giving me a shot.
Oh my goodness, that is something that I struggle with all the time. I would love to be able to write something thoughtful, so I would love the chance to be in your drawing. Thank you.
YOu mentioned stationary , it reminded me of the self made stationary we made as kids with plan paper and an ink pad or two or even a thum print turned into a mouse.
It was alwyas cute. Our girls cout troop did some a couple years ago and it trun out great. It’s a great way to spend time crafting with the kids and have usable end result too.
Oh my! This is the answer to so many minutes of my time spent staring at a blank card wondering how can I say what needs to be said! I’d love to have this book, Amy!
Sounds like a book that everyone could use!
Great idea, this book! I know I don’t send hand-written letters much anymore but I love getting them, so I should try harder.
That book sounds perfect for people like me! I never know what to say in Christmas or Birthday cards to make it a more personal message. Thank You notes and Sympathy are even more difficult.
I would love to receive a copy of this book. I am always at a loss for words to say in cards/notes. Thanks.
What a lovely book. I like writing personal notes in cards, so this book would be a great reference.
I’m with you – I don’t always know what to write either. What a great idea for a book!
I love sending cards, but am at a loss for words at times. Would welcome this book and use it. Thank you!
How handy to have a book like that…so often I am just at a loss for words. Thank you for this opportunity to win a wonderful book.
I make lots of cards, and this would come in handy. Thanks for the chance.
I have been in the situation so many times of knowing what I want to say, but not how to say it. Thanks for the chance to win.
I would *love* a copy of this book! I write notes all the time, and I’m afraid they start sounding … stale. It would be nice to have this as a resource!! Thank you! :)
What a wonderful talent to share with others! If I am not the lucky winner I will definately be putting this book on my Chirstmas list (did I just say Christmas?…yikes!).
Hey – I need to write a thank you note for treats that were so graciously given, but weren’t a big hit at our house. I think I could really use that book today! :)
I may be the Last of the Mohicans when it comes to snail mail. Love it and always will. Thanks for the give-away!
I love to write letters and cards but I have your exact same problem.
I always seem to be at a loss for words when the moment warrants otherwise. This would be a great addition to my library. Not only for handwritten notes, but also for the cards I stamp. Thanks for the opportunity.
Sometimes just a small note can mean a lot to another person! Great idea for a book!!!
What a wonderful book!! I would love to win it!
Wow, this came at a “timely time” for me, as I have been putting my foot in my mouth a lot lately! I could use some guidance!! :)
Wow – I have a bunch of cards to write – I’m going to have to look for this book!
What a great book! Just what I need.
I like to write too and spell for a living as a Medical Transcriptionist. At my office manager job they call me “Woman of Many Words” for my emails :) It certainly can be difficult to get started on a note or letter without being trite, boring, or just plain bad at it. This book sounds like a great resource. Thanks for the chance to win a copy!
What a great sounding book! Even if I don’t win I think I might look this one up. It would make a great gift for my daughter and daughter-in-law as words are hard for everybody. Thank you!
I completely get what you are saying. I found sewing about 2 years ago. It is truly the only thing in this crazy (i wouldn’t have it any other way) life that is mine. It is my therapy and I don’t know what I would do without it. I also really enjoy reading a handful of blogs (yours being 1 of them!). You give me inspiration and encouragement. You have a lovely family and I am thankful that you share so much of your life with us. Have a happy day!
This book sounds fantastic – what a great way to get inspired to keep in touch! This might just be the gift for my girlfriends during the holidays this year.
I need this book! Thanks for the chance.
This would be great! I still love to send handwritten cards and letters but it can sometimes take forever to get the right words across. Thanks for the chance!
Note writing is a lost and dying art, but still remains an incredible way to bless someone else whether during difficult times or happy times! For me what works best is having stationary and note cards I love to use…it’s easy to pull one out and write a quick note. Plus there’s so many pretty stamps always available. I love the new love stamps with the purple violets :-)
A great thing for all of us to ponder, Amy!
Blessings,
Tammy ~@~
What a great book! Thanks for the chance. Many Blessings.
Gosh, what a great book to have on hand, if I don’t win it, I’m going to buy it! Thanks for the heads up, Amy!
This sound like a good book to have. It’s hard to find the right words sometimes. I have been enjoying your blog. Thanks for the chance to win this book.
I would love such a book. I have a terrible time expressing myself on cards
How did you know I needed this book? Oh yes, you have read my writing!
Lovely review! I’m so sorry for the delay in getting over here but just wanted to say thanks so much for being on the tour. Looks like your readers were really receptive to the book!
